NEW: Intense fighting between separatist Somaliland forces backed by local militias and SSC-Khatumo forces in Ain region entered its second day, causing heavy casualties on both sides. At least 27 people were killed in heavy clashes.

Local media reported that fierce fighting erupted between SSC Khatumo and Somaliland forces along the Qorilugud and Buqdharkeyn frontlines.

The clashes reportedly started after Somaliland forces attacked SSC defence positions in these areas. SSC-Khatumo forces reportedly repulsed Somaliland militias and entered Qorilugud. (Video)
