SAA event in Togo on Wed 2nd October 2024
2nd October 2024
Border #Burkina - #Togo #JNIM claims new victims.
On October 2, 2024, in the morning, approximately, at 8 a.m., #Fanworgou , a village located on the Burkinabe border was the scene of a deadly attack.
The JNIM that struck raided a site where trench construction work was taking place to contain the actions of armed groups in the region. A provisional toll of 9 soldiers and 7 civilians killed is reported. 12 people (4 soldiers and 8 civilians) were seriously injured. Several others were evacuated to a hospital.
Vehicles, one of which was mounted with a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, as well as five hydraulic excavators and a bulldozer were set on fire by the attackers. This new deadly ambush occurred 3.5 km east of #kpenkankandi where another attack had caused the death, on July 20, of at least 21 Togolese soldiers.
The failure of the #Sahel States and the obvious security negligence of putschist military leaders will cost the populations and the border countries dearly, and even far beyond.
