Unknown event in Jharkhand, Tarawadih Forest, Palamu District area, India on Thu 24th October 2024

An encounter broke out between the Basangathan Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), and the Police in the Tarawadih Forest area, the border area of Chhatarpur, Manatu, and Navajaypur Police Stations in Palamu District of Jharkhand, on October 24, reports etvbharat.com. Palamu Police had received input that a squad of TPC was hiding in the border areas of Chhatarpur, Navajaypur, and Manatu to carry out a sabotage act. As the search team approached the suspect spot, the hiding Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] opened fire at the Police, who retaliated the fire, thereby triggering an encounter, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rishma Rameshan said. The area where the encounter took place is believed to be the stronghold of Naxal ‘commander’ Shashikant, who carries a bounty of INR 1 million on his head. Shashikant and his associate Nagina have been active in this area for quite some time now. No casualties have been reported so far, although several items purportedly used by the Naxals were recovered at the scene, the Police said.
