Police have arrested the suspected mastermind and perpetrator of the assassination attempt on former Deputy Chairman of the Ingush Government, Sherip Alikhadzhiev, whom Ramzan Kadyrov had labeled a "criminal from Chechnya."
On October 10, in Odintsovo, near Moscow, an unknown assailant shot Alikhadzhiev several times. Alikhadzhiev had been one of Akhmat Kadyrov's closest allies during the First Chechen War and later served as Deputy Chairman of the Ingush Government.
In 2007, Ramzan Kadyrov commented on the politician, stating: "As of today, I know of one criminal from Chechnya for sure—former head of the Shali district, Sherip Alikhadzhiev. He is currently under criminal investigation, yet at the same time, serves as Deputy Chairman of the Ingush Government."
The attack occurred amid reports from Kadyrov that figures from Dagestan and Ingushetia had ordered his assassination due to his involvement in the Kim-Bakalychuk conflict.
Shot and "112" report that the arrested hitman is 50-year-old Valentin Konovalov, who was allegedly promised 20 million rubles for the murder and had received an initial payment of 500,000 rubles.
