ROSWELL, N.M. — A suspect is dead after a police shooting in Roswell. It happened on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 15.

Roswell police were trying to arrest a suspect, identified as Louie Archuleta, 28, when he pulled into a parking lot. This was near the intersection of West Country Club Road and North Kentucky Avenue.

Police said Archuleta was trying to escape police while driving and crashed with another vehicle near the intersection. He then tried to leave the area on foot, which led to several police officers shooting their weapons.

Archuleta was transported to a hospital where he later died. In an update, Roswell police said officers were able to see Archuleta holding a handgun when he was driving and on foot.

He was facing several charges, according to the Roswell Police Department. No police officers were hurt in the fatal shooting. The other driver involved in the crash was not hurt.
