SAA event in Niger on Sun 3rd July 2022

The valiant soldiers of the Niger Defense and Security Forces have once again inflicted a heavy defeat on the elements of the Boko Haram terrorist group who arrived aboard several vehicles and motorcycles in Garin Dogo, a rural commune of Gueskerou, in the Diffa region. The attack targeted this Sunday, July 3, 2022 around 1 p.m., a detachment of the National Guard of the said locality, indicates a press release from the Ministry of the Interior and Decentralization.

The toll is 11 terrorists neutralized, one captured wounded, 7 accomplices apprehended and several war materials seized or destroyed. Unfortunately, there is one dead and 4 wounded in the ranks of the FDS, as well as one missing.

On behalf of the President of the Republic, the Minister of the Interior and Decentralization Hamadou Adamou Souley, sent his condolences to the family of the soldier who fell on the field of honor, while wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

He further expressed his encouragement to the FDS in this noble mission of defending the integrity of the national territory and the protection of people and their property.

To this unit of the Niger National Guard, the object of the attack, and to the elements of sector 4 of the Multinational Joint Force, Hamadou Adamou Souley addressed his "warm congratulations for their bravery which allowed the terrorists to be routed and inflicted heavy losses on them".

It must be said that this latest debacle of the Boko Haram terrorist group comes a week after the last field visit of the President of the Republic, Mohamed Bazoum in the region, this to pay tribute to the Defense and Security Forces of the defense zone n°5 of Diffa for this mission that they ensure with "dignity, professionalism and loyalty". The Head of State announced in particular, as part of the return of internally displaced populations to their respective villages, the strengthening of the capacities of the Defense and Security Forces with adequate equipment to efficiently and operationally deal with the threats of the terrorist group Boko Haram, already weakened since the death of its historical leader Abubakar Shekau.
