SAA event in Niger on Sat 25th November 2023

Yet another attack targeting a locality located on National Road No. 25 (RN25), Damana. Do the terrorists want to spread insecurity to all the towns and villages served by this road designed for the fluidity of economic exchanges and to easily connect Northern Niger with the river regions and West African countries? The question deserves to be asked given the terrorist attacks which, increasingly, almost exclusively target localities located along the RN25.

For many of the localities targeted by these attacks, this is truly a first, even though they are located not far from the Malian border.

They have always been spared from jihadist violence.

Since the beginning of the terrorist insurgency, their inhabitants have always lived in peace and security and have known terrorism only by name.

In Damana, for example, in the Tillabéri region, the population is currently in shock.

The National Gendarmerie post located in this locality of the Filingué department was targeted by armed individuals who came on motorcycles on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

According to local sources, the attackers were numerous in coming to attack the gendarmerie post, but the vigorous response of the gendarmerie elements found on the spot drowned their violent and destructive intention and forced them to retreat leaving behind them (4) dead, one captured and a motorcycle.

The same sources specify that after fierce exchanges of fire, a civilian was also injured.

The information was partly confirmed by the security source, Infos Militaires.

The latter indicates on its Facebook page that a National Gendarmerie Post was "the target of a terrorist attack" in the Rural Commune of Damana (Filingué department).

She added that "the prompt reaction of our valiant soldiers allowed us to destroy the enemy system and put them to rout."

According to Infos Militaires, the toll after the clashes is four (4) terrorists destroyed and one motorcycle abandoned.
