SAA event in Niger on Thu 22nd December 2022

The market in the village of Ahaldjan, located about sixty kilometers west of Ingall, was attacked on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, by armed individuals who arrived in two 4x4 vehicles. As soon as they arrived, the occupants began shooting at homes to create panic.

According to cross-checks made by Aïr Info, the attackers did not steal anything. They first identified the village chief before shooting him and wounding another person. After their dirty work, they fled. A typical scenario of a settling of scores.
The victim, the village chief of Ahaldjan, is the son of the Tuareg tribal chief Iherherer named Abdourahamane Hamouda.

As a reminder, this same village was the scene of similar events a few months ago.
Indeed, in retaliation for the arrest of an individual for disturbing public order on the Ahaldjan market by the gendarmerie, an armed commando had come at night to take hostage and torture several men from the village. Had it not been for the promptness and wisdom of the leaders from these two communities headed by Mohamed Anacko, Chérif, Sidi Galina, Rhissa Ag Boula, etc., social cohesion would have been put to the test in the area.

With this new tragedy, there is real danger at home. All the statements agree and call on those who are entitled to do so: "the State must act as quickly as possible to resolve the problem of Ahaldjan. Which is not an intercommunity problem but a problem of people".
Indeed, in the opinion of several people contacted by Aïr Info "the interests of a few individuals with shady activities should not prevail to the point of making the general interest fall. To remedy this, only implacable justice applied to any guilty person, whatever their rank, ethnicity or community, must prevail".
