We have learned from a reliable source that yesterday, Thursday, January 11, 2024, at around 8 p.m., an attack by unidentified armed individuals targeted the checkpoint of the Road Safety and Escort Squadron (ESRE) of the Laoudou Gendarmerie on the road to Say. A locality located 17 km south of Niamey.

According to some cross-checks, the attackers
came camouflaged under tarpaulins aboard two Hilux vehicles. Despite their surprising modus operandi, the gendarmes on duty energetically repelled the attack, forcing the attackers to retreat by firing indiscriminately on civilian stalls adjoining the gendarmerie post.
Some unofficial sources mention a weapon and three cars, two of which belonged to civilians, being taken away.
Prosecutions have been initiated.
