Unknown event in Burkina Faso on Mon 19th August 2024

#Burkina 🇧🇫 | On the morning of 19/08, several dozen Ansarul Islam (#JNIM) terrorists attacked an outpost of the #FDS in #Djibo (#Soum, #Sahel). The attack was claimed by the JNIM. 🔴 At least 2 FDS and 2 #VDP were killed. 🔵 The camp was temporarily occupied and looted by the terrorists. 🔹 Air vectors were sent to the region. ⚫️ A sweep was subsequently carried out, allowing more than 10 terrorists to be neutralized near #Kelbo. ⚠️ The security situation in the #Soum province is tense. Only a few towns such as #Djibo and #Arbinda remain secure. The terrorists have infiltrated many villages and control the roads. The #RN22 between Djibo and #Bourzanga in the south and the #RN23 between Djibo and #Titao in the west are not completely secure, thus isolating the city of Djibo. Terrorists also use the #RN22 axis between Djibo and #Diguel in the northwest to take refuge in neighboring #Mali 🇲🇱. ⚠️ #JNIM terrorists are getting closer to Djibo, harassing the #FDS and #VDP almost daily. This city represents a strategic stake for terrorists, at the crossroads of important roads. Villages and communes such as #Firguindi (5km southeast), #Tongomayel (10km east), #Nassoumbou (35km north) and #Koutougou (90km northeast) are cited as being safe havens for some terrorists. 🔹 The population of #Soum is requesting the installation of a #BIR in Djibo, which could make it possible to carry out more distant sweeps and secure a large perimeter around the city.
