The Red Bluff Police Department (RBPD) said that around 11:30 a.m. they received a call from a Circle K employeeon South Jackson Street saying that they had discovered a suspicious device.

Upon arrival, RBPD officers inspected the device and called in theShasta County Bomb Team based on the appearance of the device.

Police had advised the public to avoid the area of Circle K in Red Bluff at the time of this incident for public safety.

RBPD says the device was safely taken tothe Red Bluff Airport where it was x-rayed and further inspected.

Police say the device appeared to be a home explosive device, similar to a pipe bomb. The Bomb Team utilized a water jet to break the device apart and to render it safe.

Police are actively investigating this incident, in part by reviewing surveillance footage from the Circle K location where the device was found, in an effort to identify the subject who placed the device.
