30th August 2024
On August 30, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted search operations at seven locations in Kaimur and Rohtas districts in Bihar, in a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) linked case and seized a range of incriminating digital devices, documents, and live ammunition, reports devdiscourse.com. The raids took place at five locations in Kaimur district and two in Rohtas district, linked to the earlier arrests of two top CPI-Maoist leaders, Vijay Kumar Arya, a ‘central committee (CC)’ member and Umesh Chaudhary, arrested by the NIA in April 2022. Three additional accused, Anil Yadav alias Anil Vyas, Rajesh Kumar Gupta, and Rupesh Kumar Singh, are currently in judicial custody and have been charged in connection with the case by the NIA. The latest searches resulted in the confiscation of mobile phones, SIM cards, memory cards, incriminating documents, diaries, and live ammunition. These items are undergoing further examination to gather more insights into CPI-Maoist activities as the group aims to revive itself through recruitment and ‘levy’ (extortion money) collection efforts.
