Six Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were killed, and two Police personnel also sustained injuries in an encounter during a combing operation by the Police in the forest area near Raghunathpalem in Karakagudem Mandal (administrative subdivision) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on September 5 (today), reports The Times of India. Some top Maoist leaders from Telangana are reported to be among those killed. Further details were awaited at the time of reporting. Police say while Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) completely disappeared in Telangana due to sustained efforts over the last 10-15 years, areas bordering neighbouring states like Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra still have Maoist presence. The identities of the slain Maoists are yet to be ascertained.
