Bomb and mine clearance work deployed at the blast scene in Nghe An
After two consecutive deadly explosions in Quy Hop district in the central province of Nghe An, bomb and mine clearance work has been deployed as part of efforts to search for the explosives.
Quan Vi Giang, vice chairman of Quy Hop district People's Committee, said on August 30 that authorities suspected an unexploded ordnance leftover from the war was accidentally detonated, thereby leading to the deaths.
Earlier, at 17:00 p.m. on August 27, a loud explosion was heard at the house of Hoang Van Quang, 61, of Quyet Tien village in Tam Hop commune of Quy Hop district.
Quang was found dead in the debris, whilst the body of his 53-year-old wife Hoang Thi Huong was found several metres away.
On the afternoon of August 29, their relatives held a funeral for the couple. At this time, an excavator and a truck arrived at the scene for the cleanup operation.
While cleaning the kitchen area, another explosion occurred, severely injuring the two drivers. The victims were immediately transported to the hospital where they underwent treatment.
The causes of the explosions are now under further investigation.
