Grenade event in Manipur, Tekcham Maning Ching, Thoubal District area, India on Thu 22nd August 2024

A joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police unearthed two insurgents’ hideouts in Thoubal and Kakching Districts of Manipur on August 22, reports Northeast Now. The coordinated efforts of the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police led to the discovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition at two vulnerable locations—one in the foothills and another in a paddy field. The operation was initiated following specific intelligence reports indicating the presence of weapons and other war-like stores in the Tekcham Maning Ching hills of Thoubal District. The team successfully recovered a range of weapons, including one 9mm Carbine, a bolt-action rifle, two 9mm pistols, one M20 pistol, 11 grenades, and various types of ammunition. Simultaneously, another operation was carried out in the Ching Lukok paddy field in Kakching District. The forces uncovered additional weaponry and equipment, including a 51mm mortar, four HE-36 hand grenades, a Baofeng walkie-talkie set with a charger, two single-barrel local guns, a locally made carbine gun, a locally made revolver, 124 live ammunition rounds, two lathode bombs, seven tear smoke shells, two wood-piercing shells, and one rubber bullet.
