On 09 September 2019, 2 bombs claimed by the Islamic State targeted an anniversary procession for an anti-Taliban commander's death in Kabul city. The claimed targets were security forces and Jamiat-e-Islami party supporters. IS claimed 22-30 fatalities and casualties, while a local news website reported only 3 people were injured.
