Bomb (Air Delivered) event in Kandal, Kandal Stung area, Cambodia on Wed 14th August 2024

Kandal, August 13, 2024 – The Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) has successfully uncovered and safely removed a massive M117 bomb, weighing over 340 kilograms and measuring approximately two meters in length. The bomb was found buried in a field in Kandal Stung district, Kandal province.

According to CMAC officials, the bomb is a remnant of the Indochina War, believed to have been dropped by a B-52G bomber. The M117 bomb, which was used extensively during the conflict, was discovered during a routine clearance operation.

The CMAC Special Forces team, trained in handling such dangerous ordnance, managed to clear the area and transport the bomb to a secure location for disposal. The discovery highlights the ongoing risk posed by unexploded ordnance in Cambodia, despite decades of demining efforts.

Local authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects to the relevant authorities, as unexploded bombs continue to pose a significant threat to public safety.
