Undefined Explosive Device (UED) event in Scania, Malmö area, Sweden on Mon 5th August 2024

One person has been taken to hospital after an explosion in a villa in the Jägersro district, Malmö, on the night of Monday.

- The ability and recklessness to carry out this kind of thing, it is often found in the rough criminal environments, says Nils Norling, press spokesperson at the Malmö Police.

At 03:00 the police and emergency services were alerted to a residential area in Jägersro where a detonation had occurred in a villa. According to the police, several people were in the home at the time.

- One person had to be taken by ambulance to hospital, confirms the management operator at SOS Alarm.

The condition of the injured is still unclear.

The police have launched a preliminary investigation into attempted murder. There are no suspects at this time.

- We are investigating whether there is any threat to anyone who either lives or could be at the address. But it is work that takes some time, says Nils Norling.

According to him, however, the approach itself brings to mind organized crime.

- When we see shootings and explosives, this grossest violence, we can usually see connections to serious crime in one way or another, says Norling.

He emphasizes that it is too early to establish such a connection in this case.
