A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Nallamuri Ashok alias Vijender (34), was killed in an alleged exchange of fire between the Police and the Maoists in the forests near Damaratogu-Rangapuram in Gundala Mandal (administrative sub division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on July 25, reports Telangana Today. Superintendent of Police (SP) B Rohith Raju, in a statement, informed that the Police had launched combing operations following a tip-off that Maoists Bhadru and Lachanna and 15 others from the Kothagudem area committee were moving in Damaratogu, Gundala, Karakagudem, and Tadwai Forest areas with weapons, threatening businessmen, farmers, and contractors to give money to the Maoist party. The Maoists suddenly opened fire on the Police forces in the Damaratogu Forest area, resulting in the encounter. After firing from the Maoist side stopped, the area was searched, and the body of a Maoist in olive green clothes,.303 and SLR (self-loading rifle) weapons, ammunition, revolutionary literature, and other items were recovered. The search operation was on to arrest the escaped Maoists, the SP added.
