On 23 July 2024, in Kywe Htoe village (Ponnagyun township, Sittwe district, Rakhine state), the Myanmar military based in Sittwe township fired artillery rounds and rockets into the village at around 7 pm without an armed clash occurring. Five family members sustained injuries by artillery shells, and one of them died from injuries.
