IED event in Iraq on Mon 15th July 2024

On 15 July 2024, unknown militants detonated an explosive device (sticky bomb) under a car belonging to a Kurdish leader Akram Salih (head of 22nd Branch of the KDP) in Jutiran neighborhood of Kalar (Garmian) city (Al Sulaymaniyah). The device was placed under the seat of Salih and detonated when he approached the car. The Kurdistan Region Security Council accused the PKK of conducting the attack and called on the authorities to conduct thorough investigation. The PKK denied its involvement in the attack. According to various reports at least 1 person (either the driver or the security guard - Peshmerga) was injured (other reports claim 4 guards were injured, or that Salih, his driver and the guard were injured). There was material damage to the house of Salih. There were no fatalities.
