On 15 July 2024, at around 3:00 pm Sanaa time, Houthi forces launched 1 drone boat targeting the Chios Lion crude oil tanker (IMO: 9398280) in the South Red Sea around 97 nm northwest of Al Hudaydah claiming affiliation with companies in violation of the Houthi ban to call at Israeli ports. There were no fatalities or injuries although the drone boat struck the ship on its port side causing minor damage. The Chios Lion was sailing southbound when it was struck and turned around to sail north out of the threat area following the attack.
