On 17 September 2019, unidentified warplanes struck Iranian, Iraqi Popular Mobilization, and pro-Iran militias positions in the Free Market area in Al-Heri village and several other areas in Al-Heri village area in Al-Bukamal district along the border with Iraq, including missile and ammunition warehouses. The airstrikes resulted in the killing of 19 Iraqi pro- Iran militias and the wounding of several others.
