A traditional leader has been tragically killed in Taraba State.
The ruler, who served as the third class chief of Chanchanji in Takum local government council of the state, was murdered alongside his son.
Alhaji Tanimu Kunbiya and his son, Yusuf Kunbiya, were reportedly brutally killed by unknown gunmen on Friday evening.
The incident occurred along the Takum-Chanchanji road as the king was coming back from a burial ceremony.
At the time of submitting this report, the area is filled with tension.
It could be remembered that the village head of Usmanu village in Karim-Lamido local government council of the state, Alhaji Auwal Abubakar, and his younger brother, were also recently murdered by gunmen.
The State police spokesperson, Gambo Kwache, confirmed the murder in the early hours of Saturday.
“We received information that the third class chief of Chanchanji and his son were assassinated in an ambush at Jakudi village,” he mentioned.
She further stated that additional heavily armed policemen and security agencies had been dispatched to the region to ensure tranquility and order.
Strongly denouncing the murders, the Tiv Cultural and Social Association leadership, in a statement released by its President General, Chief James Baka, urged the authorities and security forces to apprehend the culprits.
He appealed to the community members to stay composed and let the security forces carry out their mandated duties.
