SAA event in Jharkhand, Misir Besra, West Singhbhum District area, India on Thu 18th July 2024

An encounter took place between security personnel and the squad of wanted Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Misir Besra in West Singhbhum District of Jharkhand on July 17, reports The Times of India. Security Forces (SFs) had launched a massive search operation in forest areas under Chotanagra and Manoharpur Police Stations on July 14 after receiving inputs about the movement of top Maoists, including Besra, who carries a reward of INR 10 million on his head, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashutosh Shekhar said. "The encounter took place with the squad of Misir Besra, who was in the vicinity during the gunfight," he said. In the course of the operation, the rebels opened fire at an approaching Police team, prompting them to retaliate. The exchange of fire continued before the Maoists made a hasty retreat.
