On 9 July 2024, at around 7:30 am Sanaa time, Houthi forces fired 5 ballistic/cruise missiles targeting the Maersk Sentosa container ship (IMO: 9315202) in the Arabian Sea (coded to West Arabian Sea) around 180 nm east of Nishtun claiming US affiliation of the ship. There were no fatalities or injuries as the missiles impacted the water including one in close proximity to the ship around 0.5 nm. The ship was US-flagged, and owned, operated, and managed by US-based companies. Houthi forces claimed to have targeted the ship with ballistic and cruise missiles while at least 1 explosion was reported near the ship.
