Missile event in Yemen on Mon 1st July 2024
1st July 2024
Around 1 July 2024 (as reported), Houthi forces claimed 1 cruise missile attack targeting the MSC Unific VI container ship (IMO: 9168843) in the Arabian Sea (coded to West Arabian Sea) claiming Israeli affiliation of the ship. There were no fatalities or injuries as the missiles likely impacted the water before reaching the intended target. The attack was not confirmed by other sources. Houthi forces have been labeling MSC ships as 'Israeli' possibly because of the dual Swiss-Israeli citizenship of one of MSC's co-founder and co-owner. The Unific VI left Colombo in Sri Lanka on 23 June for Djibouti where it arrived on 2 July after sailing through the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
