RAMALLAH, West Bank — Palestinian officials say Israeli forces shot and killed a 13-year-old boy in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli army said it opened fire at a group of Palestinians throwing stones at Israeli vehicles. Separately, Israeli forces launched another raid into the Nur Shams refugee camp near the city of Tulkarem in the West Bank, demolishing several buildings and making a number of arrests. Violence has surged in the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza, with over 570 Palestinians killed by Israeli fire in the occupied territory. That’s according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, which confirmed the killing of the 13-year-old Ghassan Gharib Zahran in the village of Deir Abu Mashal, northwest of Ramallah. Nur Shams, a built-up refugee camp dating back to the 1948 war surrounding Israel’s creation, has emerged as a militant bastion in recent months, with frequent Israeli raids triggering deadly gunbattles. During the raid Monday, residents say army bulldozers demolished a shop and some residential homes. The army said the buildings were being used by militants. Israel captured the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war, territories the Palestinians want for a future state.
