Grenade-like objects found in Gazipur construction site Several grenade-like objects were found at a construction site in South Chhayabithi area of Gazipur on Monday morning. Syed Rafiul Karim, officer-in-charge of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Station, said construction workers while digging up the northern end of a private owned land spotted some grenade-like objects at a clay pot at around 9am. They immediately halted their work and informed the matter to property owner along with nearby residents. Later, the owner Abul Kashem called National Emergency Service 999 and went to the Gazipur Sadar police station to report the incident. The police official said a bomb disposal unit from Dhaka visited the spot and defused the objects around 2:30pm. He said that nearby residents were evacuated for safety, and the site has been cordoned off. According to locals, Abul Kashem of the district's Kapasia upazila had bought the land in the area years ago. He recently began the construction work of a six-storey building on a plot spanning about 3.5 kathas. When the workers dug about 3-4 feet into the ground in the morning, they found the clay pot where the grenade-like objects were concealed.
