Russia announced on Saturday, July 6, that its forces captured a village in the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine, as Moscow continues to slowly advance on the battlefield, reports AFP. The Russian Ministry of Defense declared that its troops "liberated the village of Sokil", about 30 kilometers northwest of the city of Donetsk, the capital of the region of the same name whose annexation is claimed by Moscow from September 2022. Russian forces, taking advantage of the difficulties of the army Ukrainians in completing their forces and obtaining more weapons and ammunition from the West, are gradually gaining ground in Ukraine. Kiev believes that the heaviest fighting is currently taking place in the Donetsk region. On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated his main condition for peace: the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. In addition to the withdrawal of Kiev's forces from the four regions, other conditions must be met, which can be the subject of detailed discussions within a "possible joint activity", added Vladimir Putin, while receiving Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. whom he claimed to see as a representative of the European Union, despite Brussels' denial. Hungary considers the six-monthly presidency of the European Union as a peace mission, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said, while the EU immediately rejected his initiative and emphasized that the Hungarian Prime Minister does not represent it as a negotiator with the Kremlin. On the night of Friday to Saturday, Ukrainian drones attacked and set fire to two fuel depots in the Krasnodar region, in southern Russia.
