The Peruvian Institute of Nuclear Energy (IPEN) reported that a nuclear densinometer containing radioactive sources CS137 and AM241/BE was stolen in Mollendo in the Arequipa region of Peru. The equipment, which is used for measuring the density and humidity of soil, belongs to the San Martín Contratista S.A. company, and was stolen at the site where a thermoelectric plant is currently being constructed. The police have reinforced security at airports and transportation centers as they continue to search for the missing source.
