The national police and the Peruvian Institute of Nuclear Energy (IPEN) were informed that on the night of October 8, 2014, armed individuals broke into the Geowell S.A.I.C. company's storage facility in Talara, Peru, and stole several electronic devices and two radioactive sources, each containing AM241-BE . On October 9, 2014, both sources were found by the National Police, and secured by the IPEN approximately 80 km from Talara. The sources were still inside of their yellow container, so no tampering of the equipment is suspected to have taken place.
