The National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) was called on June 9, 2014 to the Inca-3 National Cancer Institute to collect overdue bottles of I125 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The bottles were discovered by occupants of the office of the director, Pedro Aurelio, and after several inspections and tests, CNEN determined no one was contaminated. No ANVISA (National Health Surveillance Agency) license was found and the institute provided no explanation as to why the material was used without the license. The source is used in the treatment of prostate cancer. There is an open investigation.
