CBRN event in Pennsylvania, Chambersburg area, United States of America on Wed 15th May 2013
15th May 2013
The licensee of the moisture density gauge from Chambersburg, PA, was working in West Virginia under a reciprocity agreement. While conducting a reading, the licensee was asked by his supervisor to pick up a fellow employee at a construction yard about 1.5 miles from his reading site. Upon completion of the reading, the licensee placed the gauge in the back of his truck and left for the construction yard. Upon arrival, the licensee observed that the gauge was not in the truck bed and that the truck's tailgate was down. Accompanied by his co-worker, the licensee doubled back in search of the gauge. After the RSO arrived, another employee informed him that he saw someone stopping along the highway to pick up (what appeared to be) the gauge and then drive off. Unfortunately, the employee did not know the gauge was missing at the time and didn't pay attention to the vehicle. The gauge contains 8 mCi CS137 and 40 mCi AM241. A subsequent report on May 16, 2013 states that the gauge was recovered and is back in possession of the licensee.
