Looters using an excavator were disrupted in the midst of stealing scrap metal from a radioactive waste dump with hundreds of barrels of waste containing soil contaminated with cesium 137 that had remained burried some thirty years outside the town of Kropyvnytsky, Ukraine. Radiation levels at the site had risen to 70 microroentgens due to this activity.
