On September 23, 2015, Audit Diagnostics Techniques Immobiliers informed the French Nuclear Safety Authority that an x-ray fluorescence device used for detecting lead in paint containing Cobalt-57 had been stolen. The device, a PROTEC LPA-1, was stolen from a stationary vehicle in Paris during a 15 minute period when the diagnostician left the vehicle. Upon his return, the driver side window was broken, and the case containing the device was gone.
