On October 7, 2014, the State of New Jersey was notified by the College of New Jersey (TCNJ) over the loss of “up to 63 radioluminescent exit signs.” Following their removal from a building scheduled for demolition, the Safety Light corporation signs were thought to have been stored “until proper disposal could be arranged.” While TCNJ is unsure of the total number of signs they possessed, it is thought that up to 51 of the signs were stored in a box that was “accidentally picked up on 1/8/14 by a contractor removing electronic waste." Each of the signs contains between 278 and 851 GBq of H-3.
