On May 30, 2014, V.C. Summer Nuclear Station SNM found a “discrepancy” in its inventory. A full review revealed on June 19th that of the 42 nuclear instrumentation incore detectors meant to be in storage, only 41 could be located. The missing detector is thought but not yet determined to be “located in a storage location in the Reactor Building (RB),” which is to be inspected during the next refueling outage. This category of detector contains “very small amounts of U235 (.0041 grams/detector),” qualifying it as an SNM. The incident has been reported as “Theft or Loss of Licensed Material” and also a "non-emergency notification."
