On March 28, 2014, the Texas Department of State Health Services [the Agency] was notified by the licensee that an employee had stolen a Thermo Niton device containing 30 millicuries of AM241. While initial reports suggested the employee may have taken the device into the country of Mexico, the licensee has confirmed that the employee was not authorized to take the device to Mexico and there is no information to confirm the device’s entry into Mexico. The employee is thought to have bought a new home in Arizona, and may currently reside there, however the licensee has been unable to contact the employee. Law enforcement has been notified and the Agency had planned to contact the State of Arizona’s program on March 31, 2014.
