The Sunnybrook Research Institute discovered that a locked, lead-lined cabinet containing 15 radioactive items has been missing for a year. The most radioactive item in the cabinet was an AM241 source and the rest of the items were used for research purposes such as X-ray calibration. The cabinet was discovered to be missing during a routine check on March 21, 2014, which indicates that the sources disappeared the previous June or July. It is hypothesized that a scrap metal dealer took the cabinet while it was being transported inside the facility, although they have found no record of it.
