CBRN event in Montana, Bozeman area, United States of America on Thu 3rd July 2014
3rd July 2014
On July 3, 2014, the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) at Montana State University discovered that a Gas Chromatograph/Electron Capture Detector (GC/ECD) containing a NI63 sealed source was missing from its designated storage location. The RSO had been “the process of disposing of all unwanted/unused sources” when he discovered that the GC/ECD was missing. The GC/ECD was last seen in its designated location three months earlier during a “semi-annual sealed source leak test inspection.” Even following multiple searches by the RSO, the GC/ECD and its NI63 source remain missing and no explanation over its whereabouts has been reached. More comprehensive searches throughout the campus are being pursued.
