On Janurary 15, 2015, a box containing a 300 gram radioactive source was found in a returned shipment at Chittagong port, after being detected by radiation monitors at Colombo Port in Sri Lanka back in April 2014, and being sent back to Chittagong. The shipment was originally intended to go from Chittagong to India, via Colombo Port in Sri Lanka. It is suspected that the source was inadvertently placed in a larger container containing nineteen tons of scrap metal. The source, which was later determined to be material resembling a 'cell phone battery' with traces of Radium and Beryllium and a maximum dose rate of 12,000 uSv, was successfully recovered by an international team.
