CBRN event in Scotland, Dundee area, United Kingdom on Wed 17th April 2013
17th April 2013
A report issued on April 17, 2013 states that janitors at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee mistakenly placed a sharps bin containing small amounts of radioactive I125 in a regular clinical waste bin, which was then sent out with other clinical waste. The material contained 0.68MBq of radioactivity, and was left over from cell labeling work at Dundee University's medical school. Once staff realized it had been improperly disposed of, they quickly located and recovered the waste, but some local officials are still calling for an independent review of the hospital's waste disposal procedures.
