On January 9, 2013, a French company in Villeneuve d’Ascq, France, informed the Nuclear Security Agency (ASN) of the theft of a radioactive device. A NITON-XLp 300 XRF analyzer was stolen from a parked car in the city of Lomme. The device which is used for detecting lead in paint, contains a source of CD109 with a radioactivity level of 1240 MBq.
