CBRN event in Estado de México, Tutitlán area, Mexico on Sun 8th June 2014

The director of Civil Protection declared that a device used for the measurement of soil compaction had been stolen by a group of armed individuals from a warehouse belonging to the National Construction Laboratory in Tultitlan, Mexico on June 8, 2014. The device has two radioactive sources: CS137 and AM/BE, and is classified as a low-level risk. On June 18, 2014, the authorities received an anonymous phone call that informed of a black bag that was abandoned by a water channel in Cartagena, in the same municipality. The local police arrived at the scene and found a box with the missing device inside of the bag. The area is now under Mexican military and police guard. No incidents have been reported associated with the device.
