On 11/15/2016, a waste broker company reported the discovery of contaminated waste. The items, found contained within garbage bags, were radium-painted dials for U.S. Navy and Coast Guard deck clocks. On 11/17/2016, another discovery of contaminated waste was reported by the waste broker company. The contaminated materials were secured for disposal. New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is investigating the case and U.S. military is assisting with disposal.
