On August 31, 2015, KBTX reported a case of missing radioactive material. The package of radioactive material was shipped, via the Federal Express, from the Science Engineering and Education Company in Edina, Minnesota to Texas A&M University, but was not received by the university. The package is a 27-pound medium sized cardboard box. The university conducted searches and issued a statement about the delivery failure, stating that the missing package will not pose threat to the community since the radioactive material was "secured in a box with two layers of inner containment." On September 2, 2015, the university reported that the missing package was found unopened and undamaged at one secure hazardous material storage facility on the campus.
