On February 18, 2013, stolen radioactive material from the back of a van was reported. The material is believed to be IR192 and was contained in a yellow, lead canister. The material is thought to have been stolen over the weekend while the van, a Peugeot Panel Van, was parked in Newline, Bacup. In March 2013, police responded to a suspicious package incident at Point Retail Park in Rochdale and discovered the source. It was declared safe and removed.
