It was reported on January 24, 2013 that the ULFA rebel group in the northeastern state of Assam, India, issued a series of threats to carry out explosions during the run-up to Republic Day. An Indian army patrol recovered an improvised explosive device (IED), containing 1.5 kg of natural uranium as well as other explosive materials, wires, and detonators from under a local police station. Intelligence reports had warned of an ULFA plot to target police and other security personnel in upper Assam as well as in the state capital.
