The theft of a device containing a radioactive source was announced by the security authorities in Hassi Messaoud, Algeria on April 8, 2014. The theft was committed by two individuals, one driver for the French construction company Sogetrap to which the source belongs to, and a former managing director are responsible for the theft of the radioactive object. Both were arrested after a complaint was filed by an official from the company for stealing a liquid density measurement device (a gamma hydrometer). The driver was inside of a Nissan truck, whilst the former manager entered the vechicle and came in control of the device at the time of the incident. No further information is provided.
